Spider-Man 2 Breaks Sales Records Amid Flag Mix-Up Controversy

The highly anticipated Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 video game has received widespread attention not only for its record-breaking sales but also for a cultural blunder involving flags. The game, featuring Puerto Rican superhero Miles Morales, confused the Puerto Rican and Cuban flags in a few scenes, sparking social media outcry.

Fans quickly noticed the mistake, pointing out that a Cuban flag appeared in Miles Morales’ family home and another street scene, despite his well-established Puerto Rican heritage. Although the Puerto Rican flag appears correctly elsewhere in the game, such as in character designs and cultural references, the mix-up prompted calls for a fix.

Insomniac Games, the developer, responded swiftly. James Stevenson, the studio’s director of community and marketing, assured players on social media that a fix was coming. By Thursday, a patch was released, correcting the flag error, with the company issuing a statement apologizing for the oversight.

Despite the controversy, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 broke the record for the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game, selling over 2.5 million copies in just 24 hours.
